A JOURNEY TO JENA, LA.

Once our key-note speakers made there way to the podium each expressing their feelings of how unjust, how unfair and uncivilized the proceeding were handled the crowd begin protesting by stating all in one accord “What do we want?” “FREEDOM” and “When do we want it?” “NOW” and these verbalized loudly and strong through the day. Now as I watch the mother of mychael Bell stand there on that stage this strong woman this
Pillow of strength doing this whole ordeal couldn’t fight back her tears any longer allowed the masses to see just how much this has taken a toll on her and her family’s life and I just could not help to think what if this was my child that was sitting in some prison just because he or she was black and made a stand for something that
No only he but, the entire world knew wasn’t right I mean only in Louisiana could there be such a thing as a TREE FOR WHITES ONLY come on things of this nature went out with buster brown shoes. “FREE THE JENA6”

A journey to Jena, La.II

Now as dusk quickly turns to day we begin to see more and more beautiful black faces dressed in black greeting one another with kisses and hugs like family members that had been separated for many year and are glad to see each other it doesn't matter if we knew each other it was our love for our fellow man, our brothers and sister that was in the air, was this the real unity God intended. As time pasted more and more of our family members gathered from all over the country places like Texas, Atlanta, California, New York, Maryland, Alaska, Mississippi, Florida, Africa and many other places all with the same thing in mind freeing the Jena6 .
As we all marched into Jena chatting and signing old gospel spirituals, holding signs with slogans on them we soon came to realize that most of Jena residents have gone fishing for the day or are all locked away in their homesschools closed for the day and businesses locked up tighter than the prison that just a few miles away that holds one of the Jena6, the town reminds me of one of those old western movie were the bad guy comes into town for the climatic gun fight only to find the town deserted and the only thing moving is that tumble weed rolling across the street. Well, we are here for a fight but, not a gun fight but, a fight for justice, a fight for right and wrong and we are not the bad guys we are all sheriffs for justice and are here to put the "BAD" guys of inequality, stereo-typing, racism, hatred and bigotry in jail because, it's time that we as people put all of those unjust attitudes to rest for good they will no longer be tolerated in this day and age. It like the quote from Marcus Garvey " I would be nothing else in God's creation but a Black Man!"

A journey begins with the first step

My eyes popped open at 12:00 a.m. on 09/20/07 finally this day has arrived but I'm a little worried about what this day will bring because the world is saying that we can't behave let human begins that we are nothing but animals, I'm sitting on the side of my bed hoping and praying Lord, that we prove them wrong.
Finally, we are all dressed, packed and on the road, after a short prayer for traveling grace and safety for all that are also traveling to Jena, It's my Mother, Aunt, my son, uncle and myself. we are about 100 miles into our travels now and a conversation begins about things that I have only heard of or seen on TV about the civil rights movement events like the Woolworth's sit-ins, the ways that our people were beaten and how attack dogs, fire hoses and night sticks were used on our people to keep the peace, how people were never seen again after standing up for what was right, and how we were hung from the nearest tree at the drop of a hat which reminds me of something an gentleman Mr. Frank Collins Sr. who's decreased now once told me when we always talk about the old days of is childhood when asked about where blacks were hanged at he would always take me to his kitchen window and point to the big oak tree just outside it which by the way was count down days after his death, he would say right out there son, right out there. I am almost in tears because it is so unbelievable that we as a race were or should I say are so hated!!!!!! And for what and I’m willing to bet they don't have clue as to why either. I just don't think I could have with stood all of the unjust treatment that was being shelled out to our people at that time.
As our journey continues we are about 50 miles on the out skits of Jena now and I'm beginning to feel like my heart is about to jump out of my chest not from fear but excitement because you can now see the caravan of buses, cars, motorcycles and mobile-homes and all the many black faces that have formed under one banner to free the Jena 6, o' yea this will be a day for the history books. Now I can’t wait until there is enough daylight so I can see more.
